Unbound

Unbound: to hope till Hope creates, 8 speakers, 8-part sound piece, altered fan, 2 archival inkjet prints, trunk, felt, light, 2011

Unbound is the second chapter out of five in the Shackleton series, shown at the Earlville Opera House (Earlville, NY).

It is the wavering between hope and loss. The work reflects upon an event and its reaction from Sir Ernest Shackleton's autobiography South: When 8 emperor penguins suddenly appeared and called out in a dirge-like manner alongside the crewmembers as they witnessed their ship, the Endurance, sink below the Antarctic ice, leaving them stranded. Then began their ceaseless and monotonous walk across the frozen winter sea to find land or death.
